Detroit police release suspect in deadly Cinco de Mayo parade shooting

Wayne County Prosecutor's Office says police need to do further investigation before charging decision can be made

DETROIT – Detroit police have released a suspect in the deadly shooting of a teen on Sunday at a Cinco de Mayo parade on the city's southwest side.

Police immediately took the 24-year-old suspect into custody after 19-year-old Andreas de Jesus was shot to death. However, police have released that suspect while the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office says it can't make a charging decision before further investigation by police.

A vigil is planned for Wednesday night at the shooting location. The victim's family says the vigil may turn into a protest.
