Woman shot in front of Andrew Jackson High

School officials say all students are safe

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 34-year-old woman was shot Thursday afternoon in front of Andrew Jackson High School, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

All lanes of Main Street between 29th Street and 32nd Street in the city's Brentwood neighborhood were shut down about 3:15 p.m. due to the investigation.

Police said a fight broke out outside the school and escalated into gunfire.

The woman was taken to UF Health Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators said they do not know if she was involved in the fight.

All students are safe, Duval County school officials said.

The school was placed on a Code Red lockdown, which was later downgraded to Code Yellow, and Duval County School police supervised dismissal from school.

The Sheriff's Office said it will be checking area businesses' surveillance video systems.
