Teen shot on Westside dies at hospital

Jacksonville police questioning 3 juveniles who were with victim

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 14-year-old boy dropped off at a Westside fire station late Tuesday afternoon has died at UF Health Jacksonville, according to the police.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Sgt Mark Musser said the boy was apparently shot behind a day care center at the corner of Ricker Road and Indian Lakes Drive.

Musser said he was with three other juveniles at the time. They flagged down someone who took the boy to the fire station at the corner of Melvin Road and Ricker.

"Very sad. You don't see anybody out here protesting or marching or anything like that, about another young man killed," said a neighbor, Kenyatte Merine. "But when it's something else, there's a big media thing and everyone is on social media. But right here in the neighborhood, no one's out here trying to figure out what's going on except the police. And God bless them."

The three were taken downtown for questioning. Police have made not arrests as they were still trying to determine who shot the boy.
