Man arrested in stabbing just outside Duval County Jail

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man stabbed downtown on Sunday evening went to the Duval County Jail to get help.

Police have since arrested 51-year-old William Young on a charge of aggravated battery.

Police said the man walked into the public entrance of the jail about 6:15 p.m. Police and rescue personnel were called, and the victim was taken to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. His name has not been released.

Detectives believe the man was stabbed on Adams Street within a block of the jail.

Police said Young attacked the other man with a box cutter and sliced his neck.

Witnesses told police Young, also known as Wild Bill, got into a fight with another man at the Sulzbacher Center, according to a police report.

Young later told officers the other man "tried to steal his beer and hit him," so he acted in self-defense, according to the report.

The other man is now recovering from a cut to his carotid artery, a cut to his left cheek and defense wounds on his arm.

Young is facing numerous charges.
