Police began investigating after multiple 911 calls reported a shooting in the area of Northwest 12th Street. Officers said they found Verl Harmon, 27, dead from gunshot wounds in the courtyard of the Sunset Apartments.

Witnesses told police that at least one suspect ran from the scene after shots were fired.

After investigating, police identified Williams, of Gainesville and Orlando, as the suspect.

Williams turned himself in early Wednesday morning at the Alachua County Jail and is being held without bond.

Police have not said if Williams knew Harmon or what the motive for the killing might be.
