Witnesses report shots fired into car at Westside restaurant

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville police are investigating after witnesses saw several shots fired into a car in the Zaxby's restaurant on the Westside late Friday afternoon, but they have not found the car or any victim.

It happened in the parking lot of the restaurant on Commonwealth Avenue just east of the intersection of Interstate 295 and Interstate 10.

An officer working at the Tax Collector's Office across the street reported hearing gunfire, but by the time police arrived, the only thing left were shell casings.

A bullet fragment was found near the drive-through window, but nothing penetrated the building.

A man working at a shop nearby heard five to seven shots.

"I definitely knew it was gunshots," a witness told News4Jax. "I know it was close, real close."

No injuries have been reported.

Police said there should be a white car with bullet holes that they would like to find, as well as any witnesses who could identify the gunman.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
