Bethel Baptist gifts Ribault Lady Trojans championship rings

Lady Trojans won the national championship in April

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After bringing home the championship title in April, the Ribault Lady Trojans basketball team has some championship hardware to show for it.

On Sunday, Bethel Baptist church celebrated the milestone, and the team's hard work, by presenting each team member with their very own gold ring. The ring ceremony was followed by heartfelt speeches and cheers from a very enthusiastic crowd.

"I'm emotionally overwhelmed. I feel extremely emotional to be in this place and in this light. The presentation of the rings today just brings you back to that actual moment," said Coach Shelia Seymore-Pennick.

Coach Seymore-Pennick noted it's the culmination of the team's hard work and dedication that led them to a 79-49 victory against Riverdale Baptist from Maryland in the Dicks Sporting Goods National championship game in Madison Square Garden.

"The team is very close, and I feel like that's why we win a lot of games because our chemistry is really there," said Rennia Davis, a wing player for the Lady Trojans.

"There aren't a lot of people that can get up every morning and go to work and do something that they truly love. I am blessed to be able to do that. There is no amount of money they could pay me to keep me from making an impact in young people’s lives because that stuff is priceless," Coach Seymore-Pennick said.

The Lady Trojans are already looking ahead, planning to get back to work as soon as possible.

"It means we have to come back and work harder for next year to get another ring," said Ribault Lady Trojans Guard Laquanza Glover.
