US goes for gold in men's 1500m final

Matthew Centrowitz makes history for Team USA

Matthew Centrowitz, a 26-year-old Maryland native, won gold in the men’s 1500m final Saturday in Rio, the first time the U.S. has taken the gold in the race since 1908.

Centrowitz won the silver in the 1500m at the 2013 World Championships after winning bronze two years earlier. He finished fourth in the event at the 2012 London Olympics.

Centrowitz is the son of Matthew Centrowitz Sr., who represented Team USA at the 1976 Olympics in track and field and is a former All-American distance runner from the University of Oregon.
