Road closures for 40th Gate River Run

Road closures for Saturday's race begin Friday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The 40th Annual Gate River Run will begin on Saturday, March 11 around 8:00 a.m. Several roads throughout downtown Jacksonville and the San Marco area will be closed.

Road closures begin Friday at 12:00 p.m. as organizers prepare for the event. Gator Bowl Boulevard between Georgia Street and Duval Street will be closed to all vehicles and pedestrians beginning Friday at noon. The road will remain closed until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.

On the day of the race the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office will be implementing a hold and release traffic pattern along the race route, meaning roads will only be closed when they are being used by racers. The closures begin at 8:15 a.m. on Saturday and all roads should reopen around 11:30 a.m.

Bay Street will be closed from EverBank Field to the Main Street Bridge from 8:15 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.

The Main Street Bridge will be closed from 8:20 a.m. to 9:20 a.m.

Riverplace Boulevard to Prudential Drive will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

San Marco Boulevard will be closed from Prudential Drive to Laverne Street from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

River Road and River Oaks Road will be closed from 8:40 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.

Hendricks Avenue will be closed from River Oaks Road to Alexandria Place from 8:40 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

Alexandria Place and Belote Place will be closed from 8:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

The West Bound lanes of Atlantic Boulevard from Belote Place to Holmesdale Road will be closed from 8:50 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Homesdale Road, Nicholson Road, Olive Street and Gay Avenue will all be closed from 8:50 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

The West Bound lanes of Atlantic Boulevard from Gay Avenue to the Hart Bridge will be closed from 9:00 a.m. to 10:50 a.m.

The Southeast Bound lanes of the Hart Bridge from Atlantic Boulevard to Duval Street will be closed from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

There will be detours and delays. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office recommends using alternate routes, especially during the times the roads are closed, to keep all race participants safe. JSO also recommends runners arrive by 6:30am. Race festivities begin at 8:15am before the 8:30am official start.
