A 78-year-old bicyclist died Tuesday night after he was hit by a pick-up truck on U.S. 441 in Colubmia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A troubling pattern has developed in Columbia County over the past three days after each day involved someone being hit by a car, with two of those incidents ending up being fatal while law enforcement continues to search for the suspect involved in another hit-and-run.

A bicyclist was fatally hit by a vehicle while riding on State Road A1A in St. Johns County Saturday night, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The driver was not injured. The bicyclist was taken to hospital where he died.

According to JSO, the bicyclist did not obey traffic signals and rode into the street when drivers heading east on Union Street had the green light. One car swerved out of the way to avoid hitting him, the car behind could not see the biker and hit him. The 41-year-old bicyclist was transported to UF Health and underwent surgery for his injuries. Eastbound lanes of Union Street were blocked because of the accident.
