DeSantis announces COVID-19 testing sites coming to Home Depot, Publix parking lots
Ron DeSantis stopped in a Boca Raton Home Depot to talk about the importance of preparing in case a storm threatens Florida in 2020, and he also made an announcement about COVID-19 testing. According to DeSantis, both The Home Depot and Publix have agreed to help make testing for Floridians more accessible. It wasnt immediately clear how many Publix and Home Depot locations would have testing sites, but testing began Friday in the parking lot of the Boca Raton Home Depot, where the governor was speaking. So if youre shopping, and you want to get a test, you have the ability, very easy access, DeSantis said. Lets prepare for the worst but hope for the best when it comes for hurricane season.
Florida lawmaker wants drivers to put down phones
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - An author of a new law that toughened the state's texting-while-driving ban wants to require motorists to go fully "hands-free" if they are using wireless phones. The proposal (HB 249) was filed a day before a change takes effect that prohibits motorists from using hand-held wireless devices in designated school crossings, school zones and work zones. Since July 1, the Florida Highway Patrol has issued 463 warnings for texting and driving, while law enforcement statewide has issued 605 tickets. Tickets will start to be issued Jan. 1, punishable as a moving violation with three points assessed against the driver's license. In a news release Monday, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles noted an effort is underway among state agencies, the Florida Sheriffs Association, the Florida Police Chiefs Association and AAA to ensure motorists are aware of the change.
Newborn Baby Left to Die in Dumpster Reunites With Dad: 'I'm Going to Name Her Sara'
A newborn baby who was left in a Boca Raton, Florida, dumpster has been reunited with her birth father. The baby was later found after her cries drew the attention of two nearby maintenance workers, the Sun Sentinel reported. Sousa was ultimately identified as the mother thanks to a receipt she left in the trash bag among the garbage, according to the Palm Beach Post. How can a mother do this? Sousa allegedly told a neighbor as authorities searched the apartment complex where she lived and near where the baby was found.
