JERUSALEM – Israel's Beitar Jerusalem soccer club, which has gained notoriety for its racist fans and refusal to have an Arab player on its roster, announced on Monday that an Emirati sheikh has purchased a 50% stake in the team. But in recent years it has drawn attention for being the only major club never to have an Arab player. Israel's Arab minority makes up roughly 20% of the population, and Arab players star on rival teams and the country's national squad. The statement did not say whether the team finally plans on adding Arab players to its roster, though Hogeg has signaled that is his plan. It also says it has Arab players on its youth and women's teams.

DUBAI – Dubai’s budget carrier flydubai said Wednesday that it would start flying twice daily to Tel Aviv later this month, becoming the first Emirati airline to announce regular service after a U.S.-brokered deal to normalize relations between the United Arab Emirates and Israel. Direct flights on flydubai between Dubai and Tel Aviv, two of the region’s financial hubs, will begin Nov. 26, the carrier said, the result of a bilateral air travel pact signed last month. The low-cost carrier operates out of both of Dubai’s airports, including Dubai International Airport, which was ranked the world’s busiest for international travel before the pandemic. Flydubai has code-share flights with Dubai’s flagship Emirates Airline, but the two operate independently. Bahrain swiftly followed the UAE in normalizing relations with Israel.

Sheikh Mohammed made the announcement Tuesday on Twitter that his country plans to send an unmanned spacecraft to the moon in 2024. Sheikh Mohammed said the rover would be named “Rashid,” the same name of his late father, Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum.
