โTote to Voteโ initiative providing free rides to early voting sites
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Faith leaders of the African Methodist Episcopal church in Northeast Florida who make up the AME Ministry Alliance are coming together to help people who want to vote early. Extending the service came about after the Duval County supervisor of elections decided not to use the campus of Edward Waters College as an early voting site this election cycle because early voting turnout has been traditionally low at that location. In addition, people who want to avoid waiting in long lines on Election Day during the coronavirus pandemic are being urged to vote early. If you live near the college and you need to get to an early voting location, call 904-739-7500. The pastor also says people who want to vote early will not be denied this free service because of their political preference.
DeSantis outlines faith-based initiative
Ron DeSantis said Thursday he has established the Governor's Faith and Community-Based Initiative, which will be led by a former president and executive director of the Tim Tebow Foundation. DeSantis' office said the initiative will help "collaborate between state government and faith-based and community-based organizations." It will be directed by Erik Dellenback, who has spent the past two years as a consultant to non-profit organizations and previously worked as president and executive director of the foundation headed by former University of Florida football star Tim Tebow. "Florida's faith and community-based groups have a longstanding history of intervening to help meet the needs of all Floridians," DeSantis said in a prepared statement. News Service of Florida
