Flagler County Referendum: Continue ½-cent sales tax for schools?

Residents of Flagler County are being asked on the November ballot to vote for or against renewing a half-cent sales tax for 10 years to fund technology, school safety and education facilities.

Flagler Schools assessing damage from Ian

Teams from Flagler Schools Plant Services, Technology, and Custodial Services are joining school administrators in surveying possible damage from Tropical Storm Ian on Friday.

Sally Hunt defeated an incumbent Flagler County School Board member in the August primary to be elected to the District 1 seat. Challenger Christy Chong also defeated an incumbent in the primary to win the District 2 seat.

Khady Harmon, a physics and chemistry teacher at Matanzas High School was named Teacher of the Year for Flagler Schools. FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – During an entirely virtual ceremony Thursday, Flagler Schools named Matanzas High School physics and chemistry teacher Khady Harmon as its Teacher of the Year. Chuck has been with Flagler Schools for 12 years. “Both Khady and Chuck are great representatives of Flagler Schools. AdBoth Harmon and Coates will now represent Flagler Schools for state-wide honors.

Area school districts Columbia, Flagler, St. Johns push back starts of sports practice

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. High school districts across the state continued to react on fall sports practice dates by pushing back the starts of their seasons as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to shake up the athletic calendar. In the wake of the Florida High School Athletic Associations decision to leave the fall sports calendar unchanged, Columbia, Flagler and St. Johns counties all announced athletic start date decisions on Wednesday afternoon. Updated: Where area counties stand on restarting sportsColumbia and St. Johns opted to push sports practices to Aug. 17, with games to begin no sooner than the week of Aug. 31. St. Johns district athletic director Paul Abbatinozzi said in an email that High Schools can be eligible to begin athletic contests no earlier than the week of August 31st, 2020. Columbia County is also aligned with that start date. Flagler left its return to high school sports open ended.

Flagler Schools announces opening dates for summer camps

Educational enrichment camps (Summer Reading, STEM, ESE/ESY, 21st Century) will begin June 8 in a virtual setting, school officials said. The sign-up period for the Extended Day Summer Camp begins Monday, June 1. Rymfire will also be made available to additional summer camp clients, but details on those camps would come from those organizations. The Flagler County Youth Centers Summer Camp will also begin June 15. In regards to the countys live summer camps, CDC, state and local health guidelines will be followed.
