Major outage hits Amazon Web Services; many sites affected
Amazon’s cloud-service network suffered a major outage Tuesday, the company said, disrupting access to many popular sites. The service provides remote computing services to many governments, universities and companies, including News4JAX and The Associated Press.
Facebook, Instagram are back up after service outages
Facebook on Friday experienced an outage that interrupted its services, including its social network, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp. "Earlier today, a technical issue caused people to have trouble accessing some Facebook services," a Facebook spokeswoman said in a statement. "We resolved this issue for everyone, and we apologize for any inconvenience." The issues began around 1:30 p.m. ET and were resolved in about an hour.

Amazon's cloud-computing service on Wednesday was hit with an outage that took down some websites and services. A notice on Amazon Web Services' status page said it was experiencing problems with Kinesis, its service that processes large streams of data, causing "increased error rates" for a number of websites. The outage also impacted its ability to post updates to the status page. Major AWS customers including Apple, Slack and Netflix didn't appear to be experiencing any issues as a result of the outage. This is the first major outage to interrupt many customers since 2017, when the same US-EAST-1 Region experienced issues, knocking some websites offline.

More than a thousand without power after JEA equipment malfunction

The malfunction knocked out power for more at least 1,064 people during the worst of the outage early Monday morning. Crews said they couldn’t determine what happened to cause the equipment to go down but noted there was a downed wire near Seabrook Parkway. Power should be restored within a few hours, Kyle told News4Jax. A crew has been on scene since 7 this morning.

Banks reporting outages included Chase, Capital One, PNC Bank, US Bank and Navy Federal, as well as the app Cash App. Web outage monitoring site Down Detector also shows a spike in outages for these and other online banking services, like Walmart Money Card.
