Dozens of high schoolers at Paxon School for Advanced Studies in Jacksonville walked out of their lunch periods Thursday to protest Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), gathering on the school’s football field with signs and chanting “ICE out.”

Paxon School for Advanced Studies was on lockdown Friday morning due to police activity in the neighborhood, according to Duval County Public Schools.

To commemorate Coleman’s contributions and enduring influence, the students created a series of artworks that celebrate her life and achievements.

Students said the dogs are a reminder for them to prioritize their mental health.

Nearly 70 students at Paxon School for Advanced Studies walked out of class Wednesday in protest of the Parental Rights in Education bill, which critics often call the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into law Monday.

Christion Russ is a senior at Paxon School for Advanced Studies. He is the quarterback of the football team and was recently crowned as Mr. Homecoming. This summer Christion worked with the Mitch22 Foundation Inc. to raise over $1,500 to provide backpacks, school supplies, hand sanitizer stations, face masks and other items for students at a local elementary school. Christion has a 3.7 GPA.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. As Duval County students prepare to return to school on Thursday, theyll be greeted by many changes. But one thing that hasnt changed is that students who attend Paxon School for Advanced Studies and other Jacksonville high schools will still be able to leave campus for lunch. We have a lot of businesses around so, a lot of workers, and there are a lot of schools around us and high schools, Bahai said. Lebarron Johnson is on the baseball team at Paxon School for Advanced Studies. Every year Lebarron participates in the Alzheimer's Association Walk. He served as a student advocate at last year's walk, raising awareness for Alzheimer's disease. In addition, he is a member of the Jacksonville Florida Kappa Alumni's Chapter Guide Right Program, also known as the Kappa League, which is a leadership development program for young men. Lebarron currently has a 4.0 GPA.
