Bicyclist hit, killed by pickup truck in Regency, JSO says

Crash happened near St. Johns Bluff and Monument roads

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A bicyclist was hit by a truck Friday evening in Regency and died from his injuries, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

The crash happened just before 5 p.m. on St. Johns Bluff Road, not far from Monument Road. According to JSO, 55-year-old James Painting was rushed to the emergency room for treatment but later died. Police released his identity Saturday evening.

The driver of the truck was not impaired, police said. He stayed at the scene and spoke with investigators.

Part of the road was closed to traffic while officers investigated.

At the time of the crash, it marked the 109th traffic death in Duval County in 2018.
