24-year-old hit, killed trying to cross US 17 in Clay County: FHP

Deadly crash on U.S. 17 in Orange Park (WJXT)

ORANGE PARK, Fla. – A 24-year-old man was hit and killed Monday night in Clay County as he tried to cross U.S. 17 south of Loring Avenue, about 2 minutes south of Wells Road, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The man, who is from Orange Park, died at the scene.

The crash report said the man was trying to cross U.S. 17 (Park Avenue) in an area not marked with a crosswalk when he was struck by a car headed south on U.S. 17, south of Loring Avenue.

The driver, a 64-year-old woman from Fleming Island, was not hurt and remained at the scene, troopers said. She was wearing a seat belt, according to the report.
