Officer, suspect hit by Jacksonville patrol car during foot chase

JSO: Man pulled over in stolen vehicle runs from traffic stop

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – An officer and a man who ran from a stolen vehicle during a traffic stop were both hit by a police cruiser Thursday night as they ran across a road in the Hogan's Creek neighborhood, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police said that an officer on patrol at about 8 p.m. spotted a vehicle believed to have been stolen in an armed carjacking earlier in the day.

After running the license plate to confirm it was the same vehicle, the officer pulled the car over on North Davis Street near West 13th Street, police said.

The driver jumped out and ran off, and the officer ran after him. It was dark and rainy at the time, and both were hit by an oncoming police cruiser as they ran across Davis Street near 15th Street, police said. The officer driving the patrol car saw them and was able to brake, but both were still struck.

Neither suffered life-threatening injuries. Both were taken to a local hospital.

A woman who was in the car with the suspect was detained by police and is being questioned, police said.
