I-95 southbound ramp to I-295 eastbound to close Wednesday night

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Nighttime detours are scheduled for the I-95 southbound ramp to the I-295 east beltway Wednesday night, weather and schedule permitting, according the Florida Department of Transportation.

The ramp will close at 8 p.m. and reopen to traffic by 5:30 a.m. Thursday. Southbound I-95 traffic traveling to I-295 eastbound will exit at Philips Highway (U.S. 1) and travel south on Philips Highway to I-295 east.

The closure is for the replacement of two bridge expansion joints located on the ramp, as part of the expansion joint replacement project taking place on the northbound and southbound ramps of the I-95/I-295 south interchange.

The DOT project includes the replacement of seven bridge expansion joints on three ramps at the interchange. Bridge expansion joints absorb movement caused by high traffic volumes, high winds and contraction and expansion from temperature variations.

The $1.1 million project began in December 2016 and is expected to be complete in May.
