What freeze? Near 80 this coming weekend

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Saturday and Sunday nights were the coldest so far this year.

We bottomed out at a chilly 26 degrees before dawn Sunday and reached a frigid 24 degrees early Monday. Widespread frost was observed across the entire viewing area, which would have been fatal to any exposed tender plants.

The rebound has begun and temperatures near 80 degrees heading into next weekend -- some 30 to 35 degrees warmer than this past weekend. The warm weather is going to be with us for a while and no freezes are in sight.

That's the good news.

The bad news is we're still in February and the models are once again hinting at the possibility of even colder air making its way into the region by the first week of March. Bear in mind that this is still a two weeks out, but the possibility does exist of more arctic air invading the region before Spring finally dawns here in Florida.

We'll keep you updated.
