JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Another warm and overcast start to your hump day but, thankfully, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Big changes are headed into our forecast that will definitely make it feel more like autumn.
Jacksonville recorded 1.54 inches of rainfall Tuesday with heavier amounts to our south. Even as water logged as we have been, Jacksonville is still running a rain deficit of nearly 3 inches. However, that is more the exception than the rule. Both Gainesville and St. Simons Island are running surpluses, with St. Simons coming in at an astonishing nine inches above normal.

Unlike Tuesday, most of Wednesday's rainfall will be concentrated from a Gainesville to St. Augustine line and southward. This includes Palm Coast and Palatka. Areas north of this line will see areas of rainfall, some of which could be moderate at times, but will be scattered in nature and not as torrential.
Once we move into Thursday, the sun should begin to make a return into the forecast as drier, cooler air filters into the region. Current model projects indicate highs on both Saturday and Sunday may only top out around 80 degrees or so under mostly sunny skies. Overnight lows could dip into the low 60s for many locations with even a few areas up in Georgia like Folkston and Homerville dipping into the upper 50s.
We will likely remain dry into the beginning of next week. Now this is football weather.
The tropics are unbelievably quiet. To date, we've had nine named storms and two hurricanes -- far below the expectations of a super-hyper season. With no storms on the horizon, it'll be interesting to see if anything else develops in this very paltry hurricane season.
