It’s now legal to water your yard twice a week

But you still want to hold off

.

Once-a-week watering restrictions have been lifted with the return to Daylight Saving Time and homes can now irrigate two times per week.

The St. Johns River Water Management District’s watering restrictions require residential homes to only water on specific days based on their address.

Odd or no numbered address can water on Wednesday and Saturday. Thursday and Sunday are reserved from even-numbered addresses.

  • Water only when needed and not between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
  • Water for no more than one hour per zone.
  • Restrictions apply to private wells and pumps, ground or surface water and water from public and private utilities.
Rain totals from Sunday night through Monday morning.

But hold off! There are reasons why you may not want to increase your irrigation over the next few weeks. First, many yards picked up 1.5 to over two inches of rain from the cold front that came through Monday morning. This will keep your plants from getting thirsty all week.

Outside the summer season, it is best to space out watering to prevent excess water from causing root rot and fungus in your yard.

Indeed more rain is ahead and the timing is spaced apart such that no areas should go dry anytime soon.

Rain chances will increase this Saturday.

This Saturday will be rainy for much of the day as another 1″ to 1.5 inches may fall. It will be followed by other wet systems days later on Tuesday March 21 and a potentially wetter low-pressure system Thursday, March 23.
