FHP: Man killed when semi hits disabled car

PALM COAST, Fla. – A 63-year-old Orange Park man was killed early Monday when a semi rear-ended his disabled Mercedes on I-95 in Flagler County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said Olando Ellis was sitting in his Mercedes in the outside lane of I-95 southbound near Matanzas Woods Parkway with his headlights turned off.

The driver of a semi in the same lane was unable to see Ellis' vehicle and hit it from behind, causing the semi to overturn and slide through the guardrail in the median, blocking four lanes northbound and several lanes southbound on I-95, troopers said.

Ellis died at the scene. The driver of the semi was not injured and is not facing charges.
