Someone poured an oil product on the two granite lion sculptures on the west end of the Bridge of Lions in St Augustine.
The vandalism was discovered Thursday morning. The oily substance was on each lion’s paw and the ball beneath it.

The lions were cordoned off and cleaned up by city workers. The city said it was bringing in the contractor who does regular maintenance on the lions to make sure there was no permanent damage.
