Flagler County to open cold-weather shelter Monday, Tuesday night

The criteria for opening the shelter is based on overnight temperatures that drop below 40 °F, officials say

FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – The Sheltering Tree will open its cold-weather shelter at the Rock Transformation Center on Monday and Tuesday night as temperatures are expected to hit the high 30s overnight, according to Flagler County officials.

The shelter will be opening not only for people without a home, but for anyone who needs a warm place.

“Flagler County has experienced a few cold fronts during January and February, and we continue to urge those who lack adequate housing or adequate heat for their residences to come to the cold-weather shelter,” said Health and Human Services Director Joseph Hegedus.

According to the county, the criteria for opening the cold-weather shelter is based on overnight temperatures that drop below 40 °F.

The county will provide cots, meals and bus transportation to the shelter along two routes:

Eastside:

  • Dollar General at Publix Town Center on Market Avenue (leads to Dollar General) at 3:30 p.m.
  • McDonald’s at Old Kings Road South and State Road 100 at the dirt road on the east side at 4 p.m.
  • Dollar Tree behind Carrabba’s in the Dollar Tree Parking lot at 4:30 p.m.
  • Palm Coast Main Branch Library, northwest corner of Palm Coast Parkway and Belle Terre Parkway at 4:45 p.m.

Westside:

  • Dollar General at County Road 305 and Canal Avenue in Daytona North at 4 p.m.
  • Bunnell Free Clinic, 703 Moody Boulevard at 4:30 p.m.
  • First United Methodist Church in Bunnell, 205 N. Pine Street at 4:30 p.m.

The cold-weather shelter will open its doors at 5 p.m. and will close at 8 a.m. the following day.

The Rock Transformation Center is located at 2200 N. State Street.
