JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police have charged Dewayne Wimberly, 33, with murder in the April 2015 shooting death of Troy Colton at a gas station on Raiford Street, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office announced Friday.
Witnesses identified Wimberly as the shooter and investigators determined that the shooting was payback for Colton having beaten up a friend of Wimberly’s, authorities said. Wimberly, who was wanted for questioning in a carjacking, was shot in the leg by a Jacksonville police officer 10 days later.

Wimberly recovered and has been in custody for a year and a half. Wimberly was tried and convicted of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and sentenced to 20 years in prison.
JSO arrested Shontae Oliver in August as an accessory in the Colton murder. Wimberly was served the murder arrest warrant Thursday in state prison and was brought back to the Duval County jail to face the murder charge, where he was ordered held without bond.
