Trinity Christian wins 3rd straight state title

ORLANDO, Fla. – Trinity Christian beat American Heritage Delray Saturday afternoon 30-3 to win the Class 3A state title in football for the third consecutive year.

The Conquerors have won six state titles under head coach Verlon Dorminey.

"It's unbelievable," Dorminey said. "Kids played great and made some big plays. The interception that put us up 13-0 was huge."

Trinity Christian led 7-0 at half behind Billy Cobb's 90 yard touchdown pass to D.J. Matthews. Matthews, an FSU commit, ran right down the middle of the field and was never touched on his way to the end zone. Matthews finished with 3 receptions for 124 yards.

In the second half the Conquerors defense got in the scoring column. Safety Chamarri Conner took an interception back 51 yards for a score to make it 13-0 Trinity Christian with 8:45 left in the third quarter.

Trinity stretched the lead to 20-3 at the end of the third quarter when Cobb found DeVante Porter all alone down the sideline for the 17 yard touchdown. Cobb finishes 10 of 24 completions for 264 yards and two touchdowns along with an interception.

In the fourth quarter the Conquerors put the exclamation point on their sixth state title with Jalen Buie scoring from 25 yards out and doing a flip into the end zone.

Trinity Christian finishes the season a perfect 14-0.
