JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Black Films Matter had planned to bring the community together safely this Saturday through a drive-in movie screening of the much-anticipated cult classic sequel Coming 2 America. Unfortunately, rainy weather canceled two of the three showings. In partnership with 1Bridge and other black-owned partners, Black Films Matter’s pop-up screening will provide food trucks, vendors, and pre-show entertainment, including local artists, African dance and drumming, and more. They are currently working on an indoor location for anyone wanting to watch the movie at 8 p.m. if the drive-in is canceled for today. If the 8 p.m. showing is canceled, Black Films Matter and 1Bridge will announce “a bigger and better plan for April/May 2021” next week, where all current ticket purchases will be honored.

When’s the last time you went to a drive-in movie theater? If a movie outing sounds fun, just know that Sun-Ray Cinema is showing “Wonder Woman 1984″ on Christmas Day, with viewings scheduled daily through Jan. 7. The drive-in is also running a contest, Dec. 23 to Jan. 7, giving away 10 tickets to the theater. Snap a photo of your crew’s setup -- and be sure to tag WJXT and Sun-Ray Cinema! -- to be selected by the Morning Show Team and win a pass to be used at your next drive-in movie.

It seems as though weve got holidays for everything, a lot of which a good portion of us may not necessarily celebrate Lion Day, Penpal Day, Drive-In Movie Day but Cow Appreciation Day is certainly one we can get down with, especially because Chick-fil-A restaurants all over the country will be giving away free entrees in celebration on Tuesday. If youre the type who likes to go all out perhaps a full-body cow suit go on with your bad self. Some examples: cow hat or mask, a T-shirt with black and white spots, jewelry with cow print. More than 2,400 restaurants took part in Cow Appreciation Day last year, but it would still be safe to check with your local Chick-fil-A before heading over to make sure theyre joining in. Happy Cow Appreciation Day!
