A man was sentenced to 24 years in Florida State Prison Tuesday after a series of BB gun shootings that occurred on I-95 and I-4 back in January, according to the 7th Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office.

Florida has executed a man convicted of breaking into a woman's home and stabbing her to death in 1986.

Florida executed a man on Thursday for murdering a woman in 1990 after he escaped from prison, stabbing her to death in a shopping mall parking lot in an attempted carjacking.

A man is facing up to 60 years in the Florida State Prison following a manslaughter conviction in a drug overdose death, according to a news release Friday from the Office of the State Attorney for the Fourth Judicial Circuit.

Billy Wells, who earned the nickname “Monster of Mayport” after five bodies in varying states of decomposition were found in his Mayport mobile home in May 2003, was serving a life sentence at Florida State Prison when he killed again -- twice.

Three people were arrested over the weekend after staging a noisy disturbance outside Florida State Prison in Starke, authorities said Sunday. By the time deputies arrived, they found the group had vandalized the facility’s property and refused to leave, the Sheriff’s Office said. Deputies said they zeroed in on three people they determined were “inciting the illegal behavior” and, after encountering some resistance, placed them under arrest. “Bradford County has no qualms with anyone wanting to peacefully protest,” Sheriff Gordon Smith said. “However, we will act quickly and decisively when the line is crossed into disorder and criminal behavior.”

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A former corrections officer accused in a shooting on Lem Turner Road earlier this month was arrested Wednesday and booked on charges of attempted manslaughter, shooting into an occupied building or vehicle and battery, according to Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office records. James Edwin Brown, 61, was released on bond the next morning. News4Jax has requested more documents about the shooting incident that resulted in Brown’s arrest.

The victim, a male inmate, immediately reported the rape after it happened. Carlisle was arrested earlier this month when police said the victim’s DNA linked Carlisle to the crime. We learned last week that Carlisle was accused of a similar crime in 2002. A medical examination of the victim immediately after the attack revealed trauma consistent with sexual battery and DNA was taken. From what we can see from Bradford County court records, his next hearing has not been scheduled.

2002: Serial killer Aileen Wuornos, who killed seven men in Florida in 1989 and 1990, is executed via lethal injection at the Florida State Prison in Bradford County, Florida. She was the 10th woman in the United States to be executed since the Supreme Court lifted the ban on capital punishment in 1976, and the second woman ever executed in Florida. Wuornos had claimed that all the killings were committed in self defense, saying that her victims had either raped or attempted to rape her while she was working as a prostitute. Her life got more attention a year after her execution with the release of the movie "Monster," with Charlize Theron winning an Academy Award for Best Actress for portraying Wuornos. Hide Caption

UNION COUNTY, Fla. – An elderly pilot made an emergency landing on State Road 16 at the Bradford-Union county line on Monday afternoon, according to the Union County Sheriff's Office. They said the pilot told them the plane was running out of gas. Channel 4 was told Momberg put the 1946 Ercoupe 415C down on State Road 16, not far from Florida State Prison. The plane was moved by authorities to an area away from the road. It was uncertain if the plane would be refueled or put on a wrecker and hauled away.
