A 72-year-old woman died early Thursday morning when the car she was riding in hit the back of a tractor-trailer on Interstate 10 and then ricocheted into a sign pole, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man turned himself in last week in the 2020 hit-and-run death of a local pastor, according to Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office records. William Hodge, 26, is charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death. Lindsay Brown, a pastor at New Life Evangelistic Center, was struck and killed by a vehicle about 7 a.m. Sept. 16 on Crystal Springs Road near Hammond Boulevard. Brown had been with New Life Evangelistic Center for 13 years, but he overall had a ministry background that spanned three decades. Brown had a hand in all aspects of the church, serving in the youth ministry, marriage ministry, administration and finance department.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville firefighters battled a fuel tanker fire on I-10 westbound early Christmas Eve morning. The tanker was carrying 6,000 gallons of gasoline and 2,500 gallons of diesel when flames sparked. All westbound lanes of I-10 at Hammond Boulevard were closed while crews transfered the fuel. Otherwise, traffic is being redirected onto the 295 exit. If you follow the latter route, you’ll need to use 295 northbound to exit to Commonwealth Avenue, go left on Commonwealth, and then use Picketville Road south to get to US 90.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was fatally injured Wednesday morning when he was struck by a vehicle on Jacksonville’s Westside, police said. The pedestrian was hit around 7 a.m. on Crystal Springs Road, near the Chandler Oaks neighborhood, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. Crystal Springs Elementary is less than half a mile away, but the crash happened before school hours. Stephanie Lanning, who lives up the street from a crash site, said it’s been an issue since the city of Jacksonville widened Crystal Springs Road. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Thursday will be the first day of school at Trinity Christian Academy. It was supposed to open Monday, the same day Jacksonville's public schools began the new year. But lightning from severe storms Sunday night knocked out power to the school on Hammond Boulevard. Parents were notified by text and social media early Monday morning that the school would not open Monday. Makeup days for the three-day closure are scheduled for Nov. 11, Nov. 27 and Jan. 6.
