Mullen, No. 6 Florida can clinch SEC East title at Tennessee
In his third season at Florida coach Dan Mullen has the Gators a win away from the Southeastern Conference championship game for the first time since 2016. Sixth-ranked Florida can clinch the East by beating Tennessee on Saturday, something they've done 14 of the last 15 games in this series. The quarterback was a freshman the last time Florida played for the SEC title, and winning the SEC East has been these Gators' first of many goals this season. As impressive as the performance was, it snapped a school-record streak of nine straight games scoring at least 35 points. โWe'll make the decision as we get closer to the game,โ Pruitt said.
No. 6 Florida focused on much more than just Vanderbilt
NASHVILLE, Tenn. โ Dan Mullen sees no reason for sixth-ranked Florida to overlook winless Vanderbilt, not with what is on the line for the Gators this season. They're putting up the kind of offensive numbers seen when Florida won its first national title. Mullen also remembers Vanderbilt holding a 21-3 lead the last time his Gators visited Nashville. Vanderbilt (0-6) has never gone winless through an entire season, and these Commodores have a trio of one-possession losses. โThey understand week to week we're going to put the best product out there that we can,โ Mason said.
Mullenโs message for Florida before Arkansas: donโt peak now
GAINESVILLE, Fla. โ Florida coach Dan Mullen had a message for his players this week: great teams donโt peak at the midpoint of the season. โIf you want to be a great team, great teams get better every single week,โ Mullen said. โGreat teams donโt peak at the midway point of the season. Great teams peak in early, mid-December, and early, mid-January. If we donโt improve, last week was really irrelevant.โFlorida begins the second half of its season against surprising Arkansas (3-3) on Saturday night in the Swamp.
No. 10 Florida will be rested, could be rusty against Mizzou
Nonetheless, coach Dan Mullen expects his team to be rested and rusty when it hosts Missouri on Saturday night in the Swamp. It begins against the Tigers (2-2), who have won two straight in varying fashion, and continues against rival and No. โWeโre itching to prove ourselves that weโre still the same Florida Gators. The Southeastern Conference rescheduled two games because Florida would not have had at least 53 scholarship players available to play. SWAMP SUCCESSThe Gators have won nine straight at Florida Field, celebrating every game at the Swamp since Mizzou thumped them two years ago.
No. 5 Florida counting on early help from several newcomers
This much is clear: Florida will rely on a number of newcomers โ some transfers, some freshmen โ as it tries to dethrone rival Georgia in the Southeastern Conferenceโs East Division. The NCAA denied his waiver request to play right away, so he ended up sitting out last season under transfer rules. โHe hasnโt played in live game situations or live football situations where people are coming, running at you to try to block the kick,โ Mullen said. Dexter visited only one school โ Florida โ before signing day. DEREK WINGOAfter losing leading tackler David Reese, who led the team with 94 stops last season, the Gators have concerns at linebacker.
