Washington beaten by Panthers, fails to clinch NFC East

Read full article: Washington beaten by Panthers, fails to clinch NFC East

Haskins' failed second chance coupled with a special teams blunder and defensive miscues added up to Washington blowing its first chance to clinch the NFC East by losing to the Carolina Panthers 20-13 on Sunday. With Christian McCaffrey out again, Curtis Samuel had five catches for 106 yards and was the Panthers' leading rusher with 52 yards on seven carries. 2 pick forced Bridgewater to fumble on a sack in Washington territory early in the third quarter to prevent Carolina from putting up even more points. Washington: Played without top WR Terry McLaurin, who couldn't keep gutting through a nagging ankle injury. Washington: Gets another chance to win the NFC East next Sunday at Philadelphia.

’Dream come true’ for Jaguars rookie Jake Luton, but can he succeed on Sunday?

Read full article: ’Dream come true’ for Jaguars rookie Jake Luton, but can he succeed on Sunday?

Although the Texans, like the Jaguars, are struggling with a 1-6 record, the obstacles to success for Luton are many. I had my girlfriend calling plays to me, but they don’t exactly know how to spit it out the right way, the right verbiage. That may be an accurate scouting report, but Luton has yet to face an NFL defense or a live rush. On a Jaguars offense that has been struggling to score points (perhaps, somewhat due to Minshew playing with an injury on his throwing hand), can the Jaguars devise some ways to let Luton play free and easy? “I dreamed of playing in NFL and getting that opportunity to step out here will definitely be a dream come true.”

Jaguars look for ways to get offense back into a rhythm

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two weeks into the season, Jay Gruden and the Jaguars offense had fans excited. Six games into the season, the offense has hit the skids. The Jaguars have failed to score 20 points in half of their games this season. There can’t be any finger-pointing.”For the offense to really get humming Gardner Minshew will have to take his play to the next level. In each of the Jaguars five losses this season, Minshew has had at least one turnover.

Fixing, not firing, is the path Jaguars coach Doug Marrone is focusing on

Read full article: Fixing, not firing, is the path Jaguars coach Doug Marrone is focusing on

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Doug Marrone doesn’t see big changes making a big difference for the struggling Jaguars. If there were a change to make, Marrone said that he’d gladly be willing to make it. But the issues plaguing the Jaguars have been so widespread week to week that there’s not one simple fix to get things turned back around. A day after the Jaguars' fifth straight loss, Marrone said that there aren’t clear-cut personnel changes that would help. Marrone said that the team is trying to put players in the best position possible but knows that the losing skid opens him up to skepticism.

Good memories in return to Cincinnati for Jaguars’ Eifert, Gruden

Read full article: Good memories in return to Cincinnati for Jaguars’ Eifert, Gruden

Offensive coordinator Jay Gruden returns to Cincinnati and Jacksonville tight end Tyler Eifert is back facing the team that drafted him. A different team now, but good memories of their time in Cincinnati. He signed with the Jaguars this offseason and has had minimal impact thus far (10 catches, 55 yards, TD). When I played there, they pretty much came to every home game, so that’ll be good having them there. “I’m super excited for Tyler and Coach Gruden, both going back to Cincinnati.

Versatile rookie Laviska Shenault has given Jaguars offense spark

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Is that really the Jaguars offense we’re looking at? Through two weeks, the Jaguars have lined Shenault up at wide receiver, in the wildcat and at running back. But to just sprinkle a few plays with him in the backfield and doing some different things with him.”Shenault’s ability to do so many different things on the field has already impressed his teammates. “And then, it’s a testament to our coaching staff being very creative and just trying to get him the ball in different ways. It’s fun to see each week what they come up with and how we can include him in different ways.”

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jaguars lost a 33-30 shootout in Nashville, falling to the Titans in Tennessee for the seventh straight year. The Jaguars are now 1-1 on the season as they prepare for a Thursday night game at home against Miami. Jaguars are a resilient teamIn both games this season, the Jaguars have fallen behind early, then come back to tie or lead. While the Jaguars never led in this game, they did overcome a 21-7 deficit to tie the game at 30. The Jaguars must find a way to make the opposing quarterback uncomfortable.

Jaguars move on after win, drill down into work for Titans game

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After getting a big win against the Colts to start the season, the Jaguars have turned the page and are back to work preparing for another rival. The Jaguars' rivalry with the Titans has been rather one-sided when the games are played in Nashville. He may need to have a few more this week if the jaguars are going to slow down Titans running back Derrick Henry. The Jaguars split with the Titans last season, winning 20-7 at home on Thursday night football and getting routed 42-20 at Tennessee. Jacksonville is 9-16 all-time on the road against the Titans, with a 2-0 mark against the former Houston Oilers factored in.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Jaguars have a chance to surprise, possibly even shock, much of the NFL. 1 draft pick in April — and assembling one of the youngest rosters in the league, the Jaguars are mostly a league-wide afterthought. The Jaguars don’t care. “I really think that this team can be special,” coach Doug Marrone said Wednesday. “We don’t feel like we’re underdogs at all,” receiver DJ Chark said.

Jaguars place RB Ozigbo on IR, sign Ogunbowale to fill spot

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Jaguars placed running back Devine Ozigbo on injured reserve with a left hamstring injury Thursday and signed former Tampa Bay running back Dare Ogunbowale to fill his roster spot. Ogunbowale could be in uniform for the team's opener Sunday against Indianapolis since Jacksonville has little depth at the position. The Jaguars waived Leonard Fournette last week, put Ryquell Armstead on the COVID-19 list for the second time in five weeks and then lost Ozigbo in practice Wednesday. That left them with undrafted rookie James Robinson, third-down back Chris Thompson and fullback Bruce Miller available. Another undrafted rookie running back, Nathan Cottrell, could be called up from the practice squad.

Jaguars hopeful heading into this season

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Some Jaguars fans dont have high expectations for the team this season, but maybe Jacksonvilles first game against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday could change some minds. "But I dont think that anyone that really, really supports us would be surprised. The Jaguars have had an offseason full of change and not just because of COVID-19. I [havent been] paying attention, so maybe it motivates us, but I really think our attention isnt on that," Chark said. While fans have been talking about tanking, the Jaguars are talking about winning. I understand it, but I really think that this team can be special, I really do.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Its been lot of work crammed into a short amount of time for the Jaguars. On Saturday morning, the Jaguars will hit the turf at TIAA Bank Field for their final scrimmage of training camp and quarterback Gardner Minshew is ready for the chance. The Jaguars season opener is Sept. 13 at home against the Colts. And then, just move the ball, communicate well and score when we get in the red zone.Early reviews for the Jaguars offense have been relatively positive thus far in training camp. I think one of the biggest things is just chemistry with the receivers and learning the timing within the offense, Minshew said.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Jay Gruden knows that the relationship is important, perhaps the most integral one on the team. Thats why the new Jaguars offensive coordinator cant wait to get to work on the field with quarterback Gardner Minshew, whenever that may be. Gruden met with the media on Tuesday and said that getting to know Minshew off the field has been a priority for him. After watching Minshew play last season, Gruden thinks he has the qualities to lead the Jaguars into the future. But Gruden says that playing in the NFL is about taking advantage of your opportunity and that is what Minshew did last season.

Read full article: Washington Redskins fire head coach Jay Gruden

(CNN) - Jay Gruden is out as head coach of the Washington Redskins. Gruden was fired Monday, according to NFL.com, after the team's 0-5 start to the season. "Through the first five games of the 2019 season, the team has clearly not performed up to expectations, and we all share in that responsibility," according to a statement Monday from the Redskins. The Redskins were smacked by the New England Patriots -- the current Super Bowl champion -- 33-7 on Sunday. Gruden was in the middle of his sixth season coaching the team and had compiled a 35-49-1 record, according to Bleacher Report.
