Longtime Sandalwood football coach Adam Geis has stepped down after 21 seasons in two stints at the school.

DJ Uiagalelei threw for one touchdown and ran for another, overcoming a sluggish start in the season opener to lead No. 4 Clemson to a 41-10 victory over Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets kept it closer than expected much of the way.

Stetson Bennett passed for 255 yards and four touchdowns, and No. 1 Georgia finished its undefeated regular season with a 45-0 victory over Georgia Tech. Georgia gained momentum for next week’s Southeastern Conference championship game against No. 3 Alabama in Atlanta.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – True freshman Jeff Sims, who was once a Florida State commitment, threw for 277 yards and a touchdown as Georgia Tech defeated the Seminoles 16-13 in both teams' season opener on Saturday night. Cornerback Asante Samuel had two interceptions and two pass break-ups for Florida State. A NEW-LOOK OFFENSEJeff Sims’ 24 completions are the most by a Georgia Tech quarterback since Reggie Ball had 27 vs. Duke on Nov. 8, 2003. Florida State officials had expected between 19,000-20,000, roughly 25 percent of the capacity at Doak Campbell Stadium. Georgia Tech plays host to UCF on Saturday.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Mike Norvell has waited nine months to coach his first game at Florida State. After the coronavirus-disrupted offseason, Norvell believes the Seminoles are ready to play their first game Saturday when Georgia Tech visits Doak Campbell Stadium. He has some impressive performances as a true freshman in 2017, coach Jimbo Fisher’s final season with Florida State, and again last year. “The main thing that coach Norvell hit on every day was just responding,” Blackman said. “I’m super excited going into my final year at Florida State,” Wilson said.

ESPN officially announced on Tuesday that the Oct. 18 game between Mandarin and Sandalwood would be shown on ESPNU. Both were named Elite 11 selections, becoming just the third and fourth players in area history to earn the prestigious honors. Sandalwood is 1-0 on national TV under coach Adam Geis, beating DeLand 28-14 in an October 2012 game on ESPN2. Mandarin coach Bobby Ramsay is 1-1 on national TV games, losing to Buford (49-7) in 2011 on ESPNU when he was the coach at Yulee. Ramsays Hornets crushed Belle Glade Glades Day 42-6 in an ESPNU game in September 2012.

Sandalwood quarterback Jeff Sims has had quite the busy summer. He became just the third area player to be named to the Elite 11. He soared up the recruiting rankings and has done his best to network to try and bring in more recruits to a growing Florida State class. Both Beck and Sims earned spots on the final Elite 11 team, becoming the first area quarterbacks from outside of St. Johns County to make the prestigious list. While a handful of area players have qualified for the Elite 11 over the years, only two have garnered elite status when all was said and done. Bartram Trails Kyle Parker followed as an Elite 11 finisher in 2007.
