It’s almost summer, and while the warmer temperatures mean fun for us, they can be dangerous for our pets. In 2024 alone, PETA received reports that 111 animals died from heat-related causes, and another 388 were rescued from overheating just in time.
After a mail carrier was killed by dogs in Putnam County last year, PETA is placing the blame on the county’s animal control policies, calling them irresponsible, dangerous and deadly.
PETA said it sent a letter to St. Johns County School District Superintendent Tim Forson on Tuesday offering lessons on kindness to animals after a dead shark was hung from the rafters at Ponte Vedra High School last week.

Billboard debuted the animated video from the Beatles legend, which is set to his 1993 protest song, "Looking for Changes." McCartney, an outspoken animal rights activist, donated the song to PETA's campaign to end experiments on animals. "I'm looking for changes that will continue the momentum of getting animals out of laboratories," McCartney said. "Experiments on animals are unethical -- they're a colossal failure and a waste of time and money.
Justin Bieber and PETA are not seeing eye to eye. After the 25-year-old singer purchased two F1 Savannah cats, that he named Sushi and Tuna, PETA expressed their displeasure with Bieber for not adopting the animals. "PETA can suck it," Bieber wrote in one post on his Instagram Story. In the middle of a busy highway, as Hurricane Dorian slammed Virginia Beach with its rain and winds, a PETA rescue worker ran down the street to rescue stranded pelicans. Video of the rescue shows one bird unable to fly and sitting on the side of the road. It tries flying away, but the pelican's wings seem to be no match for the whipping winds. The rescue worker uses her sweatshirt again to snatch it up and get it into the van. (CNN) - Noted animal rights activist Paul McCartney implored a Texas university to end its purported use of dogs as laboratory test subjects. In a letter published by PETA, McCartney asked Texas A&M University President Michael Young to halt muscular dystrophy research with golden retrievers and release them for adoption. The dogs, PETA said, were bred with the canine muscular dystrophy gene and held in metal cells. Texas A&M University did not immediately respond to a request for comment. There's currently not a cure for muscular dystrophy, the Mayo Clinic said.
