Trump’s Mar-a-Lago partially closed due to COVID outbreak
WASHINGTON – Former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida, has been partially closed after staff members tested positive for the coronavirus. An email sent to members said that service had been temporarily suspended in the club’s dining room and at its beach club because some staff members had recently tested positive. A senior Brazilian official tested positive last year after spending time at Mar-a-Lago, where he posed for a photo next to Trump and attended a family birthday party. The club in Palm Beach has been a flurry of activity in recent weeks, hosting events and fundraisers, including one to benefit rescue dogs. AdIn January, Palm Beach County issued a warning to Mar-a-Lago’s management after a New Year’s Eve party that violated an ordinance requiring employees and guests to wear masks.

Rod Stewart lawyer: Plea deal in works in hotel altercation
Defense attorneys said Friday that Stewart and his son, Sean Stewart, would not be going to trial for the altercation at The Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach on New Year's Day 2020, the South Florida SunSentinel r eported. The Stewarts’ lawyer, Guy Fronstin of Boca Raton, has been negotiating a plea deal with Assistant State Attorney Zachary O’Neill, according to the SunSentinel. AdProsecutors had no immediate announcement in the case, but did say Saturday that plea deal negotiations are ongoing. Rod Stewart punched Dixon in his “left rib cage area” with a closed fist, a police report said. It was updated on Jan. 30, 2021, to correct that prosecutors and defense lawyers have not announced a plea deal.

NYC to terminate Trump contracts after Capitol insurrection
(AP Photo/Gerald Herbert, File)NEW YORK – New York City will terminate business contracts with President Donald Trump after last week's insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Wednesday. “I’m here to announce that the city of New York is severing all contracts with the Trump Organization,” de Blasio said in an interview on MSNBC. De Blasio had said earlier that the city was examining its legal options to end the Trump contracts. Removing the Trump name from the rinks, carousel and golf course won't erase him from New York City. He will still operate Trump Tower on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue and the Trump International Hotel on Central Park West.

Trump purchased Mar-a-Lago for $10 million in 1985 from the estate of Marjorie Merriweather Post, the owner of General Foods. He unsuccessfully sued Palm Beach County because jetliners taking off from the nearby international airport flew over the mansion. State of emergency declared as Tropical Storm Eta looms
TALLAHASSEE – A state of emergency was declared Saturday by Gov. Ron DeSantis for eight southern Florida counties because of a growing threat from Tropical Storm Eta, which also could affect northern parts of the state later in the week. DeSantis issued an executive order that declared the state of emergency in Broward, Collier, Hendry, Lee, Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe and Palm Beach counties, as Eta was moving away from the Cayman Islands and toward central Cuba. DeSantis' order directed Division of Emergency Management Director Jared Moskowitz to coordinate the state’s emergency plans and to seek federal assistance as needed. Also, to reduce the potential spread of COVID-19, the order said the state will activate agreements with hotels for non-congregate sheltering.

Frustrated over unemployment system, laid-off hospitality worker walks to Tallahassee
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. A Palm Beach hospitality worker spent 27 days walking 417 miles to the state capital to raise awareness about Floridas unemployment system, which has been criticized for its difficulty in filing claims and also for delays in getting payments during the coronavirus pandemic. After his offers to volunteer to help clear up the backlog went unanswered, Beau Guyott will spend the night in Tallahassee before taking a 6 a.m. bus home on Monday in case he is recalled to work. He said he filed March 17 for state unemployment benefits and hasnt seen a dime, despite being told his application is complete. He spent most nights sleeping in a sleeping bag, with an occasional hotel room. His journey has been chronicled on the web site WalkTallahassee.com.

Trump changes primary residence from New York to Florida
WASHINGTON - WASHINGTON (AP) - President Donald Trump says he will be making Palm Beach, Florida, his permanent residence after he leaves the White House, rather than returning to Trump Tower in New York. Trump tweeted late Thursday that he cherished New York. The New York Times reported earlier Thursday that Trump had filed "declaration of domicile" paperwork changing his "predominant and principal home" to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. Ship filled with supplies bringing Dorian evacuees to U.S.
Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line is sending its Grand Celebration ship to the Bahamas filled with supplies on Thursday night. The ship will leave from Palm Beach at 8 p.m. and travel to Freeport. Some Bahamian residents who were stranded on the islands will be brought to the U.S. free of charge. The cruise ship is loaded with food, water and other supplies. Officials with the cruise line say they will be the first to arrive in Freeport following Dorian.
