Greek Orthodox church at World Trade Center reopens at last
More than two decades after a tiny Greek Orthodox church in lower Manhattan was destroyed by the falling south tower of the World Trade Center, that churchโs far grander replacement opened to the public this week in an elevated park overlooking the rebuilt trade centerโs memorial plaza.
JSO: 4 teens used crowbar to break into gun store, steal 8 guns
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Four teenagers were arrested last month and accused of breaking into a Westside gun store to steal guns, the Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office announced Thursday. JSO said the four teens โ 16, 15, 13 and 13 โ used a crowbar to break into the store and took eight guns, six pistols and two rifles. When they returned they were met by the owner of the store who saw them and called police after the teens took off running. Jordan, vice president of MAD DADS, agrees with Brunoโs statement but points out that services for at-risk youth require more money. โA lot of these groups like MAD DADS and Families of Slain Children, we have programs but we donโt have the funding.
Free teen after school program offered at The Performers Academy

Firefighters pull man from burning home in St. Nicholas neigborhood
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A man was burned in a house fire Friday afternoon in the St. Nicholas neighborhood and was hospitalized in critical condition, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department. According to Fire and Rescue, the man was pulled from the home during the rescue. A firefighter at the scene told News4Jax a woman who was in the home on Palmer Terrace was treated for smoke inhalation. The man and woman were not identified. It's a small but quaint park nestled at the foot of the St. Johns River beneath a canopy of Spanish moss, and early 20th-century style homes. "The Park Rules" sign has been replaced, alerting people that park hours are from sun up to sundown. Palmer Terrace Crime MapJay Harrington, president for St. Nicholas Area Preservation, hopes the improvements will be added sooner than later. Overall, Harrington and his neighbors said they are pleased with how the city has listened to concerns and taken action.

Neighbor says son killed outside father's St. Nicholas home
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The morning after a man found shot outside a St. Nicholas home died at a hospital, neighbors told News4Jax the victim was 27-year-old Amos Lee III. People who live along Wood Avenue said they know both the victim and his father and the incident leaves them shaken. Another neighbor who spoke with News4Jax said he's closed to the father. Court records show the father filed a domestic violence injunction against his son in 2013. In a letter to a judge after he was convicted on that charge in 2011, Lee wrote asked for his sentence to be reduced because he needed to be with his twins.

Beach Road Chicken Dinners is getting a makeover and the new owners of this Jacksonville staple are hoping to restore it to its former glory. "When you say Beach Road, it's like a little antenna pops up and it's, like, 'Oh, I know Beach Road. They said they had to take a bite out of Beach Road as soon as it was up for sale and potential demolition. The restaurant's faded red and yellow sign will be replaced when the name changes to Beach Road Fish House & Oyster Bar.
