Postal service told to sweep South Florida facilities for leftover ballots
A judge ordered some United States Postal Service processing centers in South Florida and other key battleground states to do a sweep for stray election ballots on Tuesday afternoon. The South Florida region includes Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Martin, St. Lucie, Okeechobee, Glades and Hendry counties. The international news organization wrote that the ruling was in response to a lawsuit brought forth by voting rights organization Vote Forward and Latino community groups. That represents 62% of all registered voters in the state and is 93% of the votes received at this point in the last presidential election. Records were shattered in both vote-by-mail and early, on-site voting in Florida and ballots cast represent 93% of all votes received in 2016.
Federal judge orders USPS to lift limits on extra trips & overtime one week before election
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A federal judge on Tuesday night issued a sweeping new set of orders for United States Postal Service leadership, reversing the limits Postmaster General Louis Dejoy imposed several months ago. โIโve got carriers that by the time Friday comes, theyโre into the 70-hour range for the week," Friedman said. Friedman told the News4Jax I-TEAM that U.S. postal workers working 20-30 hours of overtime a week have become common during election seasonFriedman said he applauds the judgeโs orders to reverse the limitations on mail collection imposed by Dejoy. An emergency motion filed by plaintiffs against President Donald Trump rescinded those USPS guidelines, eliminating a ban on late and extra trips to collect mail. Friedman said the ruling ensures USPS employees can do their jobs without fear of retribution from their employer -- right up until Election Day.

Judge blocks USPS election mailer in Colorado
The postcard reminds voters around the country to plan ahead if they intend to vote by mail. It urges voters to request their mail-in ballot at least 15 days before the election. But election officials in Utah, Nevada and Maryland have joined the state of Colorado in publicly rebuking the USPS postcard, because they say their election laws are different. โThe postcard contains two pieces of wrong election information for Colorado," said Jena Griswold, Coloradoโs Secretary of State. Griswold said the mailer is inaccurate because every voter in Colorado is already automatically sent a sample ballot through email.

Pelosi to call House back into session to vote on USPS bill
WASHINGTON Speaker Nancy Pelosi says she is calling the House back into session over the crisis at the U.S. In a time of a pandemic, the Postal Service is Election Central," Pelosi wrote Sunday in a letter to colleagues, who had been expected to be out of session until September. The House Oversight and Reform Committee said it wants to hear from DeJoy and from the chair of the Postal Service board of governors, Robert Mike Duncan. With heightened scrutiny of its operations, the Postal Service is now requesting a temporary preelection rate increase, from mid-October through Christmas, although not for first-class letters. "Given the recent customer concerns the Postal Service will postpone removing boxes for a period of 90 days while we evaluate our customers concerns,'' Postal Service spokeswoman Kimberly Frum said.

Postal Service spokesperson Ernie Swanson said the Oregon removals were due to declining mail volume and that duplicate mail boxes were taken from places that had more than one. The Postal Service said four mail boxes were removed in Portland this week.

Theyโre usually sitting there and waiting for the postal worker to deliver, Sometimes itโs the highlight of their day.โShe has already sold 700 shirts and hoodies.
