From left, Latvia's Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins, Sweden's Prime Minister Stefan Lofven, Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. โRegrettably, Turkey has engaged in unilateral actions and provocations and escalated its rhetoric against the EU, EU member states and European leaders,โ they said in a statement from their summit in Brussels. โAny decision to impose sanctions against Turkey wonโt be of great concern to Turkey,โ Erdogan told reporters.
EU leaders divided over new climate goals for 2030
According to the meeting's conclusions, leaders will try to find a consensus during another meeting to be held in December, ahead of the adoption of the first-ever European climate law. While the European Parliament pushes for an even greater 60% reduction in emissions, eastern EU countries that depend on coal for much of their energy needs are less enthusiastic. Poland last year did not commit to the EUโs 2050 climate neutrality goal and has asked for more details about the measures. โIf we agree on 55% average in the EU, the Czech Republic (does not) have any problem." Under the Paris Agreement, countries are due to submit updated climate targets by the end of the year.
