Police make quick arrest in murder at Sherwood Forest home
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Within hours of a man in his 30s being shot to death in Northwest Jacksonville, police announced an arrest in the case. Officers responded to Norfolk Road, in a neighborhood just south of the Trout River, around 9:15 p.m. Sunday. Police said the man had been shot several times. The Sheriffโs Office believes the victim was engaged in some form of an altercation with a man before the shooting and had taken that person into custody. On Monday morning, police announced Malik Simmons, 23, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
Jacksonville police investigate hit-and-run on North Main Street

The Jacksonville Sheriffs Office is investigating an apparent hit-and-run crash early Sunday morning just south of the Trout River. Officers said they were called just after 2 a.m. to the intersection of North Main and 61st streets, where they found a woman lying in the median of North Main Street. Police said the womans body was lifeless and it appeared she had been hit by a vehicle. Officers said they also discovered vehicle debris in the street near the victim. Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriffs Office at 904-630-0500.
Firefighters rescue man whose leg was trapped in boat propeller
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Rescue crews rescued a man Saturday morning whose leg became trapped in a boat propeller in the Trout River, just off of Tamarack Street on the Northside. According to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, a swimmer was found with his leg trapped in a propeller. Crews worked underwater to disassemble the propeller to free the man, in what JFRD said was not an everyday rescue. He said friends were holding the mans head above water. According to responders, the mans head remained above the surface of the water during the rescue, and the man was able to speak with crew members during the process.
Injuries reported in multi-semi truck crash on I-295
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Interstate 295 was shut down Tuesday afternoon after three semi trucks were involved in a crash near the Trout River, according to the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department. JFRD said several people were injured in the crash just south of Dunn Ave.As of 3:20 p.m., all northbound lanes were blocked.
