Winn-Dixie showers health care workers with random acts of kindness
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Winn Dixie celebrated “Random Acts of Kindness Day” on Wednesday by giving back to some of the community’s essential health care workers. The company presented 500 bags of food items to hospital employees at Wolfson Children’s Hospital and Baptist Health. The bags included shelf sustainable items the workers can use to feed their families as they also navigate the pandemic. Winn-Dixie North Florida Regional Vice President Shawn Sloan said it was about showing the respect and gratitude the health care workers deserve. AdEach Winn-Dixie store is also sending free bagels and cream cheese to a local school, fire station, police station or frontline organization of their choice.
1 trapped after industrial accident on West Beaver Street
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - One person was seriously injured in an industrial accident at the C&S Wholesale Grocers distribution center near Baldwin, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department. Firefighters were called to the site just after 7 a.m. Crews found someone was trapped under a large load and needed to be rescued. They managed to pull the individual out and transported him to the hospital. News4Jax has reached out to C&S Wholesale Grocers for more information but are still waiting on a response. JEA warns of rise in number of scam phone calls
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - JEA on Tuesday reported a spike in the number of scam phone calls being received by customers. According to the utility, businesses and residents have received calls from people claiming to be from JEA and threatening to disconnect the customers service if a large sum of money isnt paid within 30 minutes. "Targeting utility customers across the country, these callers claim the customer is behind on their utility payments or that their utility meter needs to be replaced," JEA said in a news release. According to JEA, if a customer gets one of these calls, the best way to check if there really is a problem is to call the number on their physical bill. Customers who receive one of these calls are urged to notify JEA at 904-665-6000.
