The Jacksonville Jaguars are counting on the youngest kicker ever drafted to bring stability to a position that has been one of the league’s most tumultuous over the past four years.

Nick Chubb caught a touchdown pass and ran for 130 yards as the Cleveland Browns held on to avoid a season-wrecking upset and keep Detroit winless with a sloppy 13-10 victory over the Lions.

Jameis Winston passed for touchdowns of 43 and 29 yards to Marquez Callaway, and the New Orleans Saints defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars 23-21 in a preseason game.

The team also re-signed tight end James O’Shaughnessy and kicker Aldrick Rosas and released eight reserves. The team also announced the release of cornerbacks Quenton Meeks, Rashaan Melvin and Josh Nurse, defensive tackles Dontavius Russell, Al Woods and Gabe Wright as well as punter Cameron Nizialek. The new league year began at 4 p.m. Wednesday marking the start of the period in which teams can sign players to contracts. The next important date on the calendar is April 29, the start of the NFL draft.

Winless teams in the NFL are dropping like flies, courtesy of the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars dropped into the AFC South cellar on Sunday, losing a game to a winless team for the third consecutive week in a 30-14 loss to the Texans. Nothing that a game against the Jaguars can’t cure. Jacksonville (1-4) has now lost four consecutive games, the final three of those (Dolphins, Bengals and Texans) coming to teams who entered the game winless. With Josh Lambo on injured reserve (hip), the Jaguars have tried Brandon Wright, Hauschka, Aldrick Rosas and Jon Brown.
