A historic Black church was destroyed by a fire last Thursday night. Now, members of St. Simon’s Baptist Church are making do by holding services outside. The pastor’s assistant said the church staff will keep holding services outside until the church is rebuilt. Task force calls for COVID-19 vaccine sites to expand to minority communities
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Church leaders in Florida are pushing for more than 80 churches in under-served areas to become vaccination clinics. Church leaders say the governor and Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry aren’t doing enough to reach underserved communities with the vaccine. They are now working to get the federal government to provide enough doses to open these sites. The leaders say it’s not political, it’s about saving lives. Church leaders announced nine Northeast Florida locations where they say coronavirus vaccination clinics should be placed.
Jacksonville church holding free turkey giveaway for families in need

Northeast Florida churches get creative for Easter Sunday services
However, many churches in Northeast Florida told News4Jax they will not open their churches. Instead, they will stream Easter service online. At University Church, lead Pastor Frank Ciresi, said they will also stream Easter Service online. In addition to streaming Easter service, other churches are bringing people together at a safe social distance. Their drive-in Easter service will be held on Sunday at 10:15 a.m. in the Northeast Florida Fair parking lot to accommodate hundreds of worshipers.
