Report: U.S. Navy wants to retire up to 10 littoral combat ships in next budget
As part of its budget proposal for the 2023 fiscal year, the U.S. Navy will seek to decommission eight to 10 of its Freedom class littoral combat ships, according to a report by Politico, which cites three people with knowledge of the proposal.

Families welcomed home the crew of the USS Sioux City, which returned to Mayport on Friday morning after a four-month deployment. USS Sioux City is attached to U.S. 2nd Fleet and is one of four deployable littoral combat ships under Surface Division Two One. Navy's newest littoral combat ship sails into Mayport
MAYPORT, Fla. - The Navy's newest littoral combat ship sailed into its new home port Wednesday as Naval Station Mayport welcomes the USS Billings. We will have unmanned boats, unmanned helicopters and unmanned submarines." For years after that, the defense department kept saying the long-range plan was to base another carrier at Mayport. While there's still no carrier at Mayport and none of the needed upgrades were completed, DoD has made Mayport a major home port for these Littoral Combat Ships. The Navy expects 14 of these small ships to be based at Mayport.
