Jackson tops Paxon to win Gateway Conference boys hoops title
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Jackson won its third Gateway Conference boys basketball championship in the past four seasons on Friday night, knocking off Paxon 73-52. The Tigers won championships in 2018-19 before being upset in the conference quarterfinals a season ago. Paxon was trying to defend its Gateway crown that it won last season on a team headlined by eventual Mr. Basketball Isaiah Adams. Instead, it had to settle for runner-up, thanks to a Jackson surge before halftime that broke open a tight game. AdQuinnton Jackson had 19 points for the Golden Eagles (16-6) and Jakobe Williams followed with 18.
Five area products invited to NFL scouting combine
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Five players with area ties were among those invited to the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis. The NFL released the final list of 337 players who were invited on Friday. Among those going to Indianapolis are three from Gateway Conference schools, Raines alums Solomon Kindley and Michael Pinckney, and White High product Javarius Davis. Glynn Academy graduate Deejay Dallas and Oakleaf graduate Shaquille Quarterman round out the list of players who were invited. The scouting combine is Feb. 23 to March 2.
