JFRD: 2 critically injured in mobile home fire in McGirts Creek
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Two men were hospitalized Saturday after they were pulled from an early morning mobile home fire in the citys McGirts Creek neighborhood, the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department said. According to JFRD, rescuers pulled the two men out of the home and both were taken to a nearby hospital with critical injuries. Neighbor Kathern McIntyre said her dog woke her up and thats when she saw the flames and called 911. My husband went outside and started spraying with water the best he could to keep the flames down, McIntyre said. Crews at the scene told News4Jax that the home burned completely from one end to the other, leaving the home charred.
Heavy rains highlight rare flood concerns for Orange Park neighborhood
ORANGE PARK, Fla. The recent high waters in Clay County have re-exposed an unusually vulnerable neighborhood the Aquarius Concourse neighborhood in western Orange Park. The backs of many homes in the neighborhood of near the Orange Park Mall are close to McGirts Creek which is an offshoot of the Ortega River. It doesnt flood as often as Black Creek, also in Clay County, but it flood during Hurricane Irma. But Ward said the neighborhood hasnt flooded very much. The county said its always working on improving drainage in neighborhoods, but in that case, much of the land is federally protected.
JSO: Bicyclist suffers life-threatening injuries in Westside crash
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A bicyclist suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash Monday evening in the McGirts Creek area of the Westside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office. Police said the crash happened about 8:50 p.m. on Rampart Road near Bear Creek Drive. According to the Sheriffโs Office, a pickup truck was traveling north on Rampart Road when it collided with a bicycle. Police said the man riding the bicycle was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. According to the Sheriffโs Office, detectives will be working to determine whether the bicyclist of the pickup driver was impaired at the time of the crash and who may have been at fault.
