Neighbors suspect Westside property was used for dogfighting
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Officers with the Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office and Animal Care and Protective Services were spotted Wednesday removing numerous dogs from a property on the Westside. It all started with a noise complaint from neighbors who long suspected the noise had something to do with dogfighting. Neighbors told News4Jax an animal control officer came out to the property to at one point investigate the complaint. He told News4Jax heโd done nothing wrong. He showed News4Jax a notice that he received in November after an animal control officer showed up to investigate noise complaints.
Crashes in Oakleaf area a symptom of rapid development, resident says
CLAY COUNTY, Fla. โ Jacksonvilleโs Oakleaf neighborhood is exploding with new development and some people who live in the area are concerned the roadways arenโt equipped to handle the heavy volume of traffic. One area of concern is near the intersection of Old Middleburg Road and Argyle Forest Boulevard, just north of the Clay County border. Melanie, who didnโt want us to use her last name, lives in the area with her family. A traffic sign near the shopping center that had recently been plowed over is evidence of the high number of traffic incidents in the area. News4Jax reached out to JSO to find out if anything is being done to curb the crashes in this area.
Man charged with killing teenager at cemetery
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A man was arrested Saturday in connection with a February shooting death of a teenager at a Westside cemetery, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. Jerry Hinshaw, 23, was charged with murder and evidence tampering in connection with the death of 17-year-old Marquis Smith, who was shot multiple times Feb. 5 at the entrance of a cemetery on Plants Lane, off Old Middleburg Road. Homicide detectives were told by witnesses the shooting occurred during a potential drug deal. Hinshaw is accused of disposing of the gun after the shooting. Hinshaw is being held without bond in the Duval County jail.
