New free COVID-19 testing sites opening Saturday in areas of need

Agape Family Health is partnering with the Northeast Florida Community Collaborative and the city of Jacksonville to bring new COVID-19 testing sites to communities who need it the most. These are the areas of Jacksonville seeing COVID-19 case spikes

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. As the surge in coronavirus cases in Florida continues to swell, News4Jax is keeping an eye on how certain ZIP codes are faring in Jacksonville. The 32250 ZIP code of Jacksonville Beach reported 71 total cases on June 16. The Southside/Intracoastal area of ZIP code 32224 saw a similar surge with 115 cases on Monday, up from 66 cases on June 16 (74% increase). In another part of the Southside (ZIP code 32246), cases jumped from 109 on June 16 to 184 on Monday (68% increase). These are not necessarily the ZIP codes with the most cases in the Jacksonville area, but these are where the increases have been most dramatic recently.

Long lines return to Lot J; COVID-19 cases jump again in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. As Duval County saw another record increase in COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, the lines at the Lot J coronavirus testing site were longer than they have been in weeks. RELATED | Another record day of coronavirus cases reported in Duval CountyJacksonville now has 2,194 confirmed cases of coronavirus. Curry cited a figure of 2.8% for positive cases in Duval County on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the percentage of people tested who tested positive for the first time in Duval County was 6.6% -- and we have seen that number climb in recent weeks. But hospital officials said its expected because those testing positive might not be showing symptoms.

Mayo Clinic starts coronavirus testing for existing patients

Tests are only available for existing Mayo Clinic patients, but even then, patients have to qualify under CDC guidelines before a test will be allowed. City officials hope Mayo’s testing can help alleviate the number of people trying to get tested at its federal testing site at Lot J outside the TIAA Bank Stadium. At the Lot J site, only 250 people can be tested per day and results can take longer than 10 days. Dr. Charles Booras said the parameters at the federal testing site is not reasonable. Negative tests results will be sent in a message through the clinic’s online patient services.
