Nassau Schools: Video of students using racial slurs was meant as ‘joke amongst friends’
A video showing two white teenagers pointing at a camera and using a racial slur (one of them wearing a white hood) was not meant to be shared outside of a small group of friends, according to a statement from Nassau County School District Assistant Superintendent Mark Durham.

Amid the opening week, fans were glad they got to return to the field even though there were some restrictions. Yulee High School student ‘hit the waves’ to celebrate graduation
JACKSONVILLE, Fla – 2020 graduates just know how to have fun! Colton A. Harris graduated from Yulee High School and decided to hit the water during his senior photo shoot. Harris captured the moment while sporting his cap and gown. The graduate wanted to capitalize on his love for water and wakesurfing to celebrate his accomplishments. Harris said he wanted to leave a message for the Class of 2020: “Don’t stop till you achieve what you want.”Friday, July 10, is also his 18th birthday.
Nassau County school district releases tentative graduation plan
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Nassau County’s high schools are planning to hold graduation ceremonies this summer, assuming social distancing rules are lifted by then. On Thursday, the Nassau County School District released a tentative plan to let seniors graduate in person in late June — or mid-July if the first option falls through. Under the tentative plan, the county’s high schools would graduate the week of June 22 with the ceremonies being held at 9 a.m. throughout the week at each school’s football field. Here’s the schedule:June 22: Fernandina Beach High SchoolJune 23: West Nassau High SchoolJune 24: Hilliard Middle-Senior High SchoolJune 25: Yulee High SchoolIf it rains on any of those days, the school’s graduation would be moved to 7 p.m. the same day. Faith Nevin honored as All-Star Athlete
Faith Nevin is on the cross country and softball teams at Yulee High School. Faith is involved in the Beta Club, the National Honor Society, student government and was president of the Florida Future Educators of America Club. Deputies: 18-year-old charged after text threat to Yulee High student
YULEE, Fla. - I got a .12 gauge slug with your brains name written all over it.That threat -- sent in an expletive-laced text message to a Yulee High School student -- landed an 18-year-old Nassau County man behind bars, deputies said. Triston Cook, a former Yulee High student, is charged with written threats to kill, which is a felony. The teenager who received the message told deputies that she had taken a Snapchat photo of another Yulee High student to show someone that she had class with her. She said that night, Cook texted her the threat, telling her to get the **** out of her life.Cook's relationship to the student in the Snapchat photo is not made clear in the arrest report. Nassau County Sheriff's Office holds active shooter drill at Yulee High
YULEE, Fla. - The Nassau County Sheriffs Office and other agencies took part Tuesday in an active shooter training drill at Yulee High School. The school has about 1,200 students and sits right next to Yulee Middle School. The drill involved a scenario where an active shooter was on campus targeting students. Last week, the Fernandina Beach Police Department also held an active shooter exercise at Fernandina Beach High School. Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper said all county agencies must practice and learn how to respond the best way possible to an attack.

YULEE, Fla. - A heads up for parents and students of Yulee High School who might be on campus during the summer: the Nassau County Sheriff's Office plans to conduct an active shooter drill at the school on Tuesday. According to Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper, the active shooter training will begin at 9 a.m. and last until 11:30 a.m.Law enforcement and fire rescue vehicles will likely be seen on campus.
