Man killed in single-vehicle crash in Jacksonvilleโs Southside
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A man died early Friday morning after his SUV left the road and hit a parked vehicle, a utility pole and a tree on Forest Boulevard, off Beach Boulevard near Packard Drive. JSO noted there is a fork in the road at the location where the crash happened. The driver was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Police are investigating if the man fell asleep at the wheel or if drugs and alcohol were involved. A person at the scene who identified himself as the victimโs brother said the man was on his way home from work.
FHP: Car plunges into river after crash on Dames Point Bridge
A car that went off the Dames Point Bridge Saturday night was pulled out of the river Sunday morning. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A car was pulled out of the St. Johns River Sunday morning after the vehicle went over the side of the concrete wall of the Dames Point Bridge following a crash Saturday night with another car in the southbound lanes, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers said the 27-year-old driver of the vehicle that went over the side was able to exit his vehicle and had only minor injuries. All southbound lanes on I-295 were closed for an hour while the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department got the driver out of the water and police cleared the scene. The next morning, the vehicle that went off the side of the bridge was pulled from the water.
Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run on Westside
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A man struck by a vehicle on South Lane Avenue at 11:40 p.m. Saturday died at a hospital and Jacksonville police are searching for the car that struck him. Police said the vehicle was headed north about two blocks south of Interstate 10 when it struck the man and the driver didnโt stop. Traffic homicide detectives are leading the investigation and will try to determine the circumstances leading up to the crash. They are trying to identify the vehicle involved and its driver. The Lane Avenue was closed in both directions while the police investigated.
Man accused of falsely reporting his vehicle stolen
KINGSLAND, Ga. โ A man was arrested after he falsely reported his vehicle to be stolen, the Kingsland Police Department announced Monday. Billy Nash, 37, called to report his vehicle stolen on June 29, according to the Police Department. A vehicle was found damaged and submerged in a local pond on Aug. 2 and the Camden County Sheriff's Office dive team confirmed it was the same car that Nash reported stolen, investigators said. A warrant for false statements, insurance fraud and false report of a vehicle theft was obtained on Friday and Nash was arrested at his Kingsland residence Monday, police said. Detective Hugh Riley is the lead case detective and was assisted by the Camden County Sheriffโs Office Dive Team.
